Car Sales Drop 27% in Turkey

Demand for passenger cars in Turkey fell to 37,800 units last month from 51,800 in March 2013, according to the country's Automotive Distributors Assn.

Monthly sales of light commercial vehicles plunged 43% to 9,800 units over the same period.

The association says car and LCV deliveries in January-March slid 22% to 89,300 units and 32% to 25,900 units, respectively.

Results reversed strong quarterly growth throughout 2013. The association blames the slump on credit restrictions, higher taxes, unfavorable exchange rates and a cooling national economy.
