Bill Peffer, who became head of Cadillac sales and service in the U.S. last October, has left General Motors Co. to "pursue other interests."

Peffer is the third person to quit the Cadillac sales job in two years. His duties will be assumed temporarily by David Caldwell, who heads GM's U.S. sales operations.

Peffer succeeded Chase Hawkins, who was fired last June for an undisclosed breach of company rules after being appointed head of Cadillac sales 12 months earlier. Hawkins had replaced Don Johnson when Johnson was tapped in June 2012 to head Chevrolet brand sales and service.

The luxury marque's management has been in flux. Last year Don Butler abruptly quit as Cadillac's head of global growth strategy after only four months on the job.
