Next month General Motors Co.’s Cadillac unit will begin offering a service that gives customers access to several of the brand’s vehicles as needed for a flat fee of $1,500 per month.

Dubbed The Book by Cadillac, the plan will be offered to drivers in the New York City metropolitan area. The company intends to eventually expand the service.

Customers will use a smartphone app to request the vehicle they wish as many as 18 times per year. Cars will be delivered and exchanged at the user’s location. The monthly fee covers registration, insurance and vehicle detailing. Subscriptions will be sold month to month, and customers can cancel at any time. There are no mileage restrictions.

Cadillac says the plan will offer the use of top-of-the-line trim levels of its flagship CT6 sedan, Escalade SUV, V Series performance cars and XT5 midsize crossover.
