General Motors Co. says the new Elmiraj concept it unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance last week hints at the look of future Cadillac models.

The sleek coupe stretches 205 inches from bumper to bumper, making it 3 inches longer than the XTS, currently the largest car in the Cadillac portfolio. GM describes the Elmiraj as an extension of the more flamboyantly designed Ciel convertible concept it debuted at Pebble Beach two years ago.

GM, which developed the car at its studio in North Hollywood, Calif., says it was inspired by such Cadillac models as the 1967 Eldorado coupe and the current CTS-V coupe.

The 2+2 Elmiraj is constructed of unspecified lightweight materials and structural elements, according to the company. GM says the car sits on a platform being developed for a future large Cadillac sedan. CEO Dan Akerson indicated previously that such a sedan would be introduced in about two years.

The Elmiraj is powered by a 4.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that delivers an estimated 500 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. The engine features technology developed for the twin-turbo, 420-hp V-6 engine slated to debut in the 2014 Cadillac CTS-V midsize performance sedan.
