Volkswagen AG’s Bugatti unit has appointed Stefan Ellrott to be head of development.

Ellrott succeeds Willi Netuschil, who is retiring from VW. Netuschil had led Bugatti’s development efforts since 2012 and is credited with overseeing the introduction of the Chiron hypercar.

Ellrott has held a variety of leadership positions at VW Group, most recently heading the company’s “geometry and function” department. He previously was in charge of prototype management at VW’s technical development department and led development at Volkswagen Individual, which handles customized vehicles and special orders.
