Brose Group says it will spend €300 million in China on products and equipment over the next three years.

CEO Kurt Sauernheimer referenced the investment last month at the Shanghai auto show in declaring Brose’s commitment to shape the auto industry’s transformation into a mobility services provider.

Brose, which entered the Chinese market in 1996, employs 4,400 people at 11 facilities there. The company’s operations in China generate about €1.2 billion in revenue ($1.3 billion).

Brose specializes in mechanical, electric and electronic door and seating systems. The company has been expanding its expertise to include the entire interior of autonomous vehicle with such features as fold-away steering wheels, massage seats that match the beat of the audio system’s music and consoles that reconfigure to accommodate different seating positions.
