BMW AG says it is realigning its motorcycle operations to focus on urban transportation and e-mobility, such as electric scooters.

Under that plan, the company has agreed to sell its Husqvarna performance motorcycle brand to Austria's Pierer Industrie AG for an undisclosed price. The transaction requires the approval by anti-trust authorities.

Husqvarna, originally a Swedish company, has made motorcycles in Italy since 1986. BMW bought the brand from MV Agusta SpA in 2007.

Pierer Industrie is run by Stefan Pierer, CEO of Austrian mass-market motorcycle maker KTM Sportmotorcycle AG. Pierer is expected to make Husqvarna a part of KTM, which is 47% owned by India's Bajaj Auto Ltd.
