BMW AG says an expansion of its complex in Shenyang, China, has raised its annual production capacity in the country to 450,000 vehicles.
The company has been assembling five models in China at the Shenyang location, which houses two assembly plants (Dadong and Tiexi) and an engine factory. The complex serves the Chinese market, which is BMW’s largest, exclusively.
Dadong, which opened in 2004, makes long-wheelbase versions of the 5 Series midsize sedan. An expansion at the Dadong facility, which official opened on Thursday, enables the factory to add the X3 compact crossover vehicle.
Tiexi, which launched production in 2012, makes standard- and extended-wheelbase X1 small crossovers, 1 Series subcompact sedans, 2 Series coupes and standard- and extended-wheelbase 3 Series compact sedans,
