Sales of “semi-large” sedans in South Korea have surpassed traditionally more popular midsize models for the second consecutive month.
Sales of “semi-large” sedans in South Korea have surpassed traditionally more popular midsize models for the second consecutive month, The Korea Herald reports.
Midsize sedans have dominated the country’s domestic market for years. But semi-large models—a segment between midsize and fullsize vehicles—outsold them by 25,100 units to 21,900 units in January, according to industry data.
The Herald notes the market shift began after the restyled Hyundai Grandeur (called the Azera in the U.S.) and Kia K7 (the Cadenza in the U.S.) debuted last year. Demand for midsize models as the Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5 and Renault Samsung SM6 fell 40% in January.
