Volkswagen AG’s Bentley unit has no plans to compete against fellow VW brand Porsche with a 911-type sports car.

“We don’t see any reason to create a 911 fighter,” Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer tells Autocar. He says the ultra-luxury marque will continue to focus on higher-end models.

Bentley’s Continental GT3 competes against the 911 GT3 R in some race series. But Durheimer says this is only done to “underline that we do performance.”

Durheimer, who has been chairman and CEO of Bentley and Bugatti since mid-2014, is due to retire from both posts in January. He will continue to work with VW Group as a motorsports advisor.
