Beijing Automotive Group Co., which announced last year it would like to acquire a mid- to high-end European auto brand, now says it's looking in the U.S. too.

Dong Haiyang, who heads the Chinese carmaker's international developing unit, tells reporters in Beijing, "We have candidates," but didn't say who they are.

Beijing Auto acquired the rights to several of Saab Automobile's previous-generation platforms in 2011. The company partners with Daimler AG in China.
