Volvo Car Corp. plans to unveil its XC40 compact crossover vehicle at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, reports Car News China.

The 2018-model XC40, which will be positioned below Volvo’s current XC60, will be built on the carmaker’s new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). The platform also will carry the upcoming Lynk 01 crossover from parent Geely Automobile Holding Co.’s new Lynk & Co. brand.

Styling cues for the XC40 will be borrowed from last year’s 40.1 (pictured) and 40.2 concepts, including a muscular front end, upswept belt line and L-shaped tail lamps.

Powertrain choices are expected to include two turbocharged engines: Volvo’s new 1.5-liter 3-cylinder mill and a 2.0-liter four-banger. A hybrid variant also is said to be in the works, and at least one diesel offering is likely for Europe, China News says. All-wheel drive will be optional.
