DuPont completed the sale of its performance coatings business to The Carlisle Group in February for $4.9 billion. The company, which serves original equipment and aftermarket companies, has more than 120,000 customers in 130 countries.
Axalta will continue to market several well-known DuPont brands, including Cromax, DuPont Refinish, Imron, Standox and Spies Hecker.
The Wilmington, Del.-based company announced last week it will open a $50 million automotive paint plant near Shanghai in the first quarter of 2015. The facility will have annual capacity to make 25,000 metric tons of waterborne coatings for carmakers in south and central China.
