Lennart Lindblad, one of the founders of Swedish safety specialist Autoliv Inc., died Jan. 30 at the age of 89.
Lindblad and his older brother Stig founded Lindblads Autoservice AB in 1953 and developed the company's first seatbelt in 1956. The company’s name was changed to Autoliv in 1968.
Autoliv went through several owners over the past 40 years and merged with Morton ASP Inc. in 1997. Last year, the company spun off its electronics business as Veoneer Inc. The remaining passive safety business, which includes airbags, seatbelts and steering wheels, continues to operate under the Autoliv name.
