During his 34 years in the Senate, Levin has been a major ally of the auto industry on such issues as fuel economy, trade and grants to develop new technology. As co-chair of the Senate Auto Caucus, he was a leading advocate for the Dept. of the Treasury's $82 billion bailout of the auto industry in 2008-2009.
