Auto Industry Ally Levin to Retire from Senate

U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, 78, says he will not run for re-election in 2014 when his current six-year term expires.

During his 34 years in the Senate, Levin has been a major ally of the auto industry on such issues as fuel economy, trade and grants to develop new technology. As co-chair of the Senate Auto Caucus, he was a leading advocate for the Dept. of the Treasury's $82 billion bailout of the auto industry in 2008-2009.
