Australia’s Competition and Consumer Commission has filed a lawsuit against Ford Motor Co. for misleading consumers about flaws in one of its transmissions.
The agency’s complaint claims about half the 70,000 transmissions in Ford Focus, Fiesta and EcoSport small vehicles sold in Australia between 2011 and 2016 required at least one repair, the Financial Times reports.
The lawsuit says Ford refused to refund or replace vehicles, even after some cars underwent multiple repairs that failed to fix the problem. Instead, the company blamed drivers for mishandling their vehicles.
Ford refutes ACCC’s allegations and says it will defend itself, according to the FT.
