Passenger vehicles sales through the first eight months of the year advanced 13% to 11.3 million units. CAAM says total vehicle sales, including trucks and buses climbed 10% to 1.65 million units in August and

The association says crossovers/SUVs and multipurpose vehicles are generating the strongest growth, advancing 46% to 240,100 units and 162% to 105,600 units, respectively. Demand for conventional sedans rose 4% to 899,100 units in August.

General Motors and its partners sold a record 245,800 vehicles in China last month, up 11% from August 2012. Ford's sales jumped 46% to 71,200 units, and its Focus was the market's most popular sedan.
