Audi AG says the wagon version of its all-new A6 midsize car will be larger and include more amenities than its predecessor.

The A6 Avant will be launched in Europe and other global markets later this year. There are no plans to bring the vehicle to the U.S.

Like the fifth-generation A6 sedan, which was unveiled at last month’s Geneva auto show, the redesigned wagon gets a wider grille, new headlights and taillights and a sportier roofline. Flared rear wheel arches contribute to a more muscular stance.

Audi says the 2019 model is longer and has a more spacious cabin than the current A6 Avant. The five-seater boasts 20-cu-ft of cargo capacity, which grows to more than 59-cu-ft with the rear seats down.

The tailgate and trunk cover can be opened electrically. Storage features include a tensioning strap, net with adjustable hooks and an available load-securing kit with an adjustable bar and strap that allows users to create sections within the trunk.

The cockpit is highlighted by three display screens, including 10.1- and 8.6-inch touchscreens mounted in the center stack. A 12.3-inch digital display is used in place of an analog instrument cluster.

All-wheel drive and a mild-hybrid system with a belt-alternator starter are standard. Four suspension setups are available as is four-wheel steering.

Powertrain choices are expected to include a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine mated with a 7-speed automatic transmission or a diesel V-6 with an 8-speed automatic. A plug-in hybrid variant also is said to be in the works.
