Audi AG likely will drop its R8 supercar at the end of the current model’s life.

The carmaker has no plans for a next-generation R8, research and development boss Peter Mertens tells Car and Driver. This confirms earlier reports that the slow-selling R8 could be on its way out as Audi switches its focus to electrified vehicles.

But the R8 still has several years left in it. The current V-10-powered model was launched in 2017, and a turbocharged V-6 variant is due later this year. The first-generation R8 bowed in 2006.

Stablemate Lamborghini is moving forward with plans for a successor to the Huracan, which shares a platform with the R8. The new Huracan may share a platform with the Lamborghini Aventador or Porsche’s next-generation 911.
