Volkswagen Group’s Audi has named interim CEO Abraham Schot to become its permanent CEO on Jan. 1.

The former head of Mercedes-Benz Italy, Schot has directed Audi’s sales and marketing operations since 2012.

Schot has served as acting CEO since June, after former CEO Rupert Stadler was arrested on charges of tampering with an investigation into VW’s diesel emission cheating scandal. Audi canceled Stadler’s contract in October. He was released from jail at the end of October.

Schot will continue to head sales and marketing pending the announcement of a replacement in that role, according to the company.
