Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd.is targeting a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio—1,000 hp and 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs)—for the hypercar it’s co-developing with Red Bull’s Formula One racing team. This will generate “off the charts” acceleration and a top speed of more than 250 mph, design chief Marek Reichman tells Australia’s Motoring.
Codenamed AM-RB 001, the limited-edition model is due in late 2018, with a track-only variant to follow shortly thereafter. Reichman is teaming with Adrain Newey, Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer, to lead the project.
The car will be powered by an unspecified V-12 engine and a modified version of the kinetic energy recovery system used in F1 race cars. There won’t be any steel used in the vehicle, according to Reichman. He says the car's body and chassis will be made entirely of aluminum, carbon fiber, Kevlar, magnesium and titanium.
An ultra-aerodynamic design will help the track car sustain 4.5g lateral cornering forces, according to the report. Reichman also touts the car’s interior, which he says comfortably accommodates people of all sizes and allows them to easily enter and exit the low-slung model.
The car is expected to carry a multi-million-dollar price tag. Aston Martin says the 100-unit production run is sold out.
