Analysis: Crash Avoidance Systems Cut Insurance Claims
Forward collision and lane departure warning systems can reduce insurance claims for the Honda Accord by 14%, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute.
Forward collision and lane departure warning systems can reduce insurance claims for the Honda Accord by 14%, according to the Highway Loss Data Institute.
The institute touts its analysis as the first real-world study of the value of such technology in a high-volume midmarket model. Its data compares claims for 2013 model Accords and its Crosstour variant for models with and without crash avoidance systems.
HLDI says the two technologies also reduced the rate of property damage claims by 14%, injury claims for occupants by 27% and injury claims for those in other vehicles by 40%.
The analysis says collision claims averaged $409 less for Accords equipped with collision avoidance systems. It speculates that the technology helps mitigate damage in cases where it doesn't prevent a crash.
