American Axle Forms JV in China

Detroit-based American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. has launched a joint venture in China with Liuzhou Wuling Automobile Industry Co., a subsidiary of Guangxi Automobile Group Co.

The new company Liuzhou AAM Automotive Driveline System Co., will begin production of driveline systems later this year in China’s Guangxi Province. The plant will supply independent rear axles and driveheads for minivans and SUVs produced by SAIC-GM-Wuling, a joint venture between General Motors, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. and Wuling Automobile Industry Co.

American Axle, which did not reveal financial, ownership or sales details about the joint venture, has nine other facilities in China.
