Motor Trend has selected the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan, Ford F-150 pickup and Honda CR-V crossover as its Car, Truck and SUV of the Year, respectively.

MT editors made their choices based on safety, efficiency, value, advancement in design, engineering excellence and performance of intended function. Industry experts Tom Gale, Chris Theodore and Gordon Dickie served as special guest judges.

The all-new Alfa sedan bested the Honda Accord, Kia Stinger and Tesla Model 3 for the top car honor. Judges praised the Giulia for its “sheer joy” of driving and for recapturing the spirit of 1960s Alfas in a modern manner.

Featuring a host of mid-cycle updates, Ford’s top-selling F-150 won the truck category over a pair of General Motors models: the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and GMC Sierra Denali 3500 HD. Among the F-150’s highlights are “significant” ride and handling improvements, more responsive steering, premium interiors and upgraded powertrain offerings.

The CR-V was selected over three other finalists—the Land Rover Discovery, Volkswagen Atlas and Volvo XC60—in what MT calls by far the industry’s most competitive segment. The CR-V, which also won the 2016 title, was rewarded for its safety, spaciousness, fuel efficiency and being “packed with features at an affordable price.”

In addition to the vehicle awards, MT named General Motors CEO Mary Barra its Person of the Year. Barra was selected for leading GM’s push into electric vehicles and new mobility services, as well as overseeing a financial restructuring and manufacturing planning.
