Adient plc, the former automotive seating business of Johnson Controls Inc., will establish its global headquarters in Detroit’s historic Marquette Building.

The company plans to spend nearly $100 million to acquire and renovate the 10-story, 164,000-sq-ft building in Detroit’s downtown financial district. Company operations currently scattered in southeast Michigan will be consolidated at the building when it’s ready for move-in about two years from now.

The project is being supported by a $2 million grant from the Michigan Strategic Fund. City tax breaks are expected too. Adient says the headquarters will house about 500 employees, including about 100 new hires.
