Chinese stunt driver Han Yue this week drove one of the most memorable laps at Germany’s famed Nurburgring course when he piloted his Mini Cooper around the grueling 12.9-mile Nordschleife circuit on two wheels.
It took Yue about 45 minutes to complete the so-called “side wheelie” trip, which was livestreamed on video. The car was equipped with reinforced off-road tires, a roll cage and racing harness.
Due to a problem with one of the tires, the car’s speed was limited to an average of just over 17 mph. In August Finnish stunt driver Vesa Kivimaki set a record speed for driving on two wheels when he piloted a BMW 335i at 115 mph.
The overall distance record for driving a car on two wheels is 230 miles. But that was accomplished on a relatively straight and flat road, whereas Yue had to navigate the Ring’s various hairpin turns and steep inclines.
