General Motors Co. is adding a high-powered V-Sport variant to its CT6 sedan for the 2019 model year.

Power will come from GM’s 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 tuned to make 550 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque—90% of which is available at 2,000 rpm. As an option in other CT6 models, the engine generates a slightly more sedate 500 hp and 553 lb-ft.

The all-aluminum V-8, which will be hand-built at GM’s performance center in Bowling Green, Ky., has a 9.8:1 compression ratio. Features include direct injection, cylinder deactivation, water-to-air intercoolers, twin electric wastegates and a variable-pressure oil system. The twin-scroll turbochargers provide as much as 20 lbs of boost.

The engine is mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is standard, and a new “Track Mode” changes various vehicle settings.

The CT6 V-Sport also will get performance-tuned steering and an upgraded version of GM’s Magnetic Ride Control dampers. Other goodies include a limited slip differential and 19-inch Brembo Monoblock brakes with four pistons in front and performance pads front and rear.

Among the car’s design highlights are standard LED headlights and redesigned taillights with chrome accidents, gloss black side window trim, 20-inch wheels and a rear spoiler integrated into the deck lid. Inside, the performance sedan will get Cadillac’s new infotainment system with improved voice control activation and over-the-air software update capabilities.
