Honda Motor Co.’s upscale Acura unit will take the wraps off the production version of its third-generation RDX crossover vehicle and an “A-Spec” sport variant at next month’s New York auto show. The RDX Prototype concept vehicle debuted at the Detroit auto show in January.
Acura says the A-Spec model (pictured) will feature a variety of unique interior and exterior styling cues. The carmaker plans to offer such variants on all future mainstream cars and trucks, a trend that began with its TLX and ILX sedans.
Due to hit dealerships this summer, the 2019 RDX moves to an Acura-exclusive platform that adds cabin space and cargo room. The vehicle also will be lighter and stiffer than the outgoing model. Other highlights include a panoramic sunroof, new infotainment system, adaptive dampers and an upgraded version of Honda’s optional torque-vectoring, all-wheel-drive system.
Acura developed the RDX at its engineering center in Raymond, Ohio. Styling was handled by the brand’s design studio in Los Angeles. The vehicle will be built at the company’s assembly plant in East Liberty, Ohio. The crossover’s 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine will be produced in nearby Anna, Ohio.
