General Motors Co. has released the first teaser image of its second-generation Buick Enclave crossover, which will be publicly unveiled next month at the New York auto show.
The cropped image shows the vehicle’s headlight and grille, which reflect Buick’s latest design language. The redesigned Enclave is expected to be slimmer and sportier than the current model, which was launched nearly a decade ago.
The 2018 Enclave will ride on a stretched version of GM’s C1XX platform that carries the Cadillac XT5 and GMC Acadia crossovers. The long wheelbase architecture also will be used for the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse crossover, which was unveiled in January at the Detroit auto show. That vehicle has a 121-inch wheelbase and measures 204 inches from bumper to bumper.
The Enclave also is expected to share the Traverse’s engine options: a 305-hp 3.6-liter V-6 and a turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec four-banger that makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The engines will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission with optional all-wheel drive.
A high-end “Avenir” edition of the Enclave also is expected with a unique grille, larger wheels and other design tweaks. Buick launched the sub-brand in China with the new GL8 Avenir minivan.
