Fiat SpA's powertrain lineup for the 2014 model Fiat 500 minicar will include the company's new 2-cylinder, 900-cc TwinAir gasoline engine.
Fiat will publicly unveil the 105-hp turbocharged unit during the Geneva auto show this week. The engine can propel the 500 to a top speed of 110 kph in 10 seconds.
The 2-cylinder powerplant, which is fitted with an automatic stop-start system, has a European fuel economy rating of 4.2 liters/100 km (56 mpg U.S.) and emits 99 g/km of carbon dioxide.
Like Fiat's other Turbo TwinAir engines, the little unit has an "eco" mode that limits output to 98 hp for greater fuel economy.
