Michigan-based Nexteer Automotive Group is opening of a facility in Chennai, India, to produce electric power steering (EPS) and driveline systems.
The company expects to employ 150 people at the 89,700 sq-ft factory by the end of 2019. The plant is Nexteer’s third in India—joining existing ones in Bengaluru and Pune—and its 26th manufacturing facility worldwide.
Nexteer forecasts continued growth for EPS to help boost fuel efficiency and aid driver-assist features, such as lane keeping, park assist, lane departure warning and traffic jam assist. The company, formerly known as Saginaw Steering, was divested by General Motors Co. in 2010.
