Editorial intern

Monday, February 10, 2020

Cincinnati-based publisher Gardner Business Media is looking for two full-time interns (with flexible hours to accommodate school schedules) to work on editorial production for its trade magazine brands.

These competitively paid positions require someone who is detail-oriented, organized, motivated and seeking to hone their editing and writing skills in a collaborative, professional environment.

Ideally, we are looking for college juniors, seniors and/or graduate students majoring in journalism, English, communications or a related field: people with strong writing and editing skills. Knowledge of AP style is important. The following experience would be a plus, though not required:

  • Newspaper or campus publication work
  • Social media management
  • Familiarity with Google analytics and SEO practices

Gardner has a positive track record of hiring its star interns, and we’re hoping this year won’t be any different.

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Editing and entering press releases into Gardner’s in-house content management system (CMS). (Learn about the ins and outs of PR, how best to work with it, what a typical CMS interface is like, and how to edit for clarity and consistency.)
  • Working closely with seasoned editors who will work with you on technical accuracy and assist with style. (Take advantage of the many decades of combined editorial and writing experience of our long-time staff.)
  • Filling editorial gaps by writing/editing short pieces as directed.
  • Helping to edit and select content for e-newsletters.
  • Participating in social media management and strategy.
  • Helping to edit and produce industrial business directories.
