Looking to build upon our annual capital spending survey, the Metalworking Business Index (MBI), is a monthly e-mail survey that will report trends in the metalworking industry. The MBI will capture month-to-month changes in the levels of various economic data that can serve as crucial leading indicators for your business.

What variables are used and what will be asked?

• 
  This is a simple 10 question e-mail survey that will only take a few minutes to complete.
• Data is collected monthly via email from North American durable goods manufacturers
• A diffusion index based on 50.0 will be calculated
• MBI will function similarly to the Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI)
• A value of 50.0 indicates business activity has expanded in the previous month
• A value below 50.0 indicates business activity has contracted in the previous month
• MBI will focus only on durable goods manufacturing
• Total MBI will be a weighted average of sub-indices for new orders, production, employees, backlog, exports,
  and supplier deliveries.
