Text Box: Real personal income includes employee compensation, rental income, dividend and interest income, and government transfer payments. System revenue passenger miles is the number of seats purchased on a domestic or international flight multiplied by the number of miles the flight traveled for U.S. air carriers. This statistic gives us an indication of how busy airlines are and the need for airlines to add capacity . On average changes in real personal income lead changes in system revenue passenger miles by seven months. 

Current Comment - System revenue passenger miles saw strong accelerating growth in 2007 in response to the strong accelerating growth in real personal income in 2006. Real income growth is noticeably slowing. Indications are the growth rate of system revenue passenger miles will peak sometime in early 2008.
